One of the largest domestic cat breeds, Ragdolls are famous for their docile, placid temperament and tendency to go limp when held — hence the name. They have stunning blue eyes and a silky, semi-long coat. Ragdolls are sociable, gentle, and well-suited to family life.

Originally from the Isle of Man, the Manx is easily recognised by its naturally stubby or absent tail — caused by a genetic mutation. Manx cats are robust, playful, and highly intelligent. They form strong bonds with their families and enjoy interactive play.

The British Shorthair is the UK's most popular pedigree breed. Stocky and round-faced with a dense, plush coat, they are calm, affectionate, and independent. Less demanding than some breeds, they suit busy households and adapt well to indoor living.

Scottish Fold

Known for their distinctive folded ears and large, round eyes, Scottish Folds have a sweet, owl-like expression. They are gentle, affectionate, and adaptable cats that enjoy company. Prospective owners should research health considerations associated with the fold gene.

One of the world's largest domestic cats, Maine Coons are often called the "dogs of the cat world" — they love to follow their owners, fetch toys, and chirp rather than meow. Their thick, water-resistant coat and tufted ears give them a wild, majestic look.

Domestic Moggy

Mixed · Non-pedigree

The humble moggy — a mixed-breed domestic cat — makes up the majority of pet cats in the UK. Moggies are wonderfully varied in appearance and personality, and are generally considered healthier than pedigrees due to their genetic diversity. Many are waiting in rescues for a loving home.

Cat Care

Practical guidance across every stage of your cat's life.

Vaccinations

Kittens need their first vaccinations at around 8–9 weeks, with a booster 3–4 weeks later. Core vaccines protect against cat flu, feline enteritis, and feline leukaemia virus (FeLV).

Feeding

Feed a complete kitten food (wet or dry) four times daily until 12 weeks, then reduce to three times. Always provide fresh water. Avoid cow's milk — most cats are lactose intolerant.

Neutering

Kittens can be neutered from 4 months old. This prevents unwanted pregnancies, reduces roaming and fighting, and lowers the risk of certain cancers. Most vets and rescues strongly recommend it.

Socialisation

The key socialisation window is 2–7 weeks. Gently introduce your kitten to different people, sounds, and experiences early. Positive early exposure makes for a confident, friendly adult cat.

Settling In

Keep kittens indoors for at least 4 weeks
Provide a quiet, safe space of their own
Litter train from day one with appropriate litter
Use FELIWAY spray to reduce stress

Parasite Control

Start flea and worm treatment from 4–6 weeks. Use vet-recommended spot-on treatments monthly for fleas and worm every 3 months. Check ears regularly for mites.
